Law Firm History
In 1946, John J. McCarten joined Kenneth Dell in his law office, which was established in 1928. After Mr. Dell’s death in 1951, McCarten became the Douglas County Attorney, a position he held for the next sixteen years. He was joined in his practice by Ralph S. Tillitt under the firm name of McCarten and Tillitt.
At the center of the Alexandria Minnesota area legal community, McCarten and Tillitt prospered with their practice which included business formations, estate planning, probate and estate administration, township representation, real estate and trial work. In 1985, Mr. McCarten retired. His son Paul V. McCarten joined the firm in 1976 and the office continued to expand with Paul R. Johnson joining the firm in 1980 and Julie A. Haseman in 1989.
Tillitt McCarten Johnson and Haseman Ltd not only continued a tradition of business and corporate work; wills, estate planning and probate work; township representation; and a large real estate practice, their trial work focused on plaintiff’s personal injury work including representation of victims of auto accidents, wrongful death and personal injury.
The firm now includes senior associate, Michelle L. Clark. Ms. Clark joined the firm in 2000 having completed a district court judicial clerkship. Family law and criminal defense work are a major part of her trial practice. Ralph S. Tillitt retired in 2002.
